Ethylene Oxide Update #51: May 4, 2022

In this update includes:

  • Quarter 1 stack monitoring and fugitive emissions results received by IEPA; Vantage within permitted emission cap
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has updated its website to include the 2022 Q1 data related to Vantage’s permit. The results indicate Vantage has released 7.48 pounds (6.80% of permitted annual total) of EtO cumulatively year-to-date, of which 5.29 pounds (8.82% of permitted annual total) were fugitive emissions. Public Act 101-0023 and Vantage’s Construction Permit limit the facility to 110 pounds of emissions annually of which no more than 60 pounds can be fugitive emissions. The submission noted two deviations including, “On January 9 and 10, 2022 daily calibrations of the CEMS did not occur because of a malfunction of the laser in the analyzer….The laser was replaced on January 10 and the daily calibrations were passed the following day and have been conducted daily” and “On February 4 through February 21, 2022 daily calibrations of the CEMS did not occur because the system was on pause and not recoding data…The CEMS recorder was reset on February 21 and daily calibrations were passed the following day and have been conducted daily.”

The first quarter report is now available on the IEPA website here: https://www2.illinois.gov/epa/topics/community-relations/sites/ethylene-oxide/Documents/Vantage%20Const%20Permit%20Q1%202022.pdf
