Top 10 Stories of 2019: #10 September Flood One of the Largest in Gurnee's History

In mid-September, the Gurnee area received a seven-day rainfall total of over 7.20 inches. Due to the heavy rainfall, road closures and home flooding occurred from rapidly increasing river levels. Following the rainfall, the Des Plaines River crested at a level of 10.46 feet on September 14th, marking the 6th largest flood in Gurnee’s history. The Gurnee community came together to aid flooding victims, with volunteers assisting in sandbagging, providing cleanup assistance, and the business community donating supplies and food to those in need.
