Barricaded Subject

GURNEE – On June 7, 2019, Gurnee Police were conducting a business check at the 3700 block of Grand Avenue.  A vehicle in the parking lot indicated the registered owner had an active felony warrant.  Officers went into the hotel to investigate further.

Gurnee officers made contact with the registered owner shortly before 9:00 A.M. at his hotel room.  The male subject was advised he was under arrest and was given multiple commands to exit the room.  He refused to comply with the officers’ requests and retreated into the room implying he had a weapon. The subject barricaded himself inside and there were no other occupants in the room.

Officers set up a perimeter around the hotel and the surrounding area was evacuated.
With assistance from the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) additional officers arrived on scene to aid with the situation.  After speaking with negotiators for several hours, the man surrendered peacefully without incident.  No officers were injured and there was no threat to the public.

The subject was not injured and was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation.
