GURNEE, IL– On March 5, 2019 at approximately 12:11pm, the Gurnee Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 6455 Cunningham Court, a Theresa Home senior facility. Upon arrival, flames were showing from the roof and attic of the two story multi-family residential facility. A working still alarm level 13-37 was called which activated Grayslake Fire Department, Libertyville Fire Department and Newport Fire Protection District to the scene; Mundelein Fire Department, Beach Park Fire Department, Zion Fire Department, and Lake Ville Fire Department covered Fire Station 1 and Fire Station 2 in Gurnee.

Although it has not been confirmed, the cause of fire points to possible fireplace embers igniting the cedar roof, spreading throughout the roof and into the attic. The building was noted to have a working fire detection system and sprinklers. However, due to the affected area, the systems did not activate. All 17 residents and occupants of the building were rescued without injury and were relocated to other Theresa Homes facilities.
