Des Plaines River Update, July 12, 2017, 2pm

Volunteers needed to help sandbag!

The current estimates from the National Weather Service indicate that water levels at the Des Plaines River may reach structure levels. Rain is expected to continue and river levels may continue to rise in to tomorrow.

We encourage all residents to take the necessary precautions for their homes.

We are seeking volunteers to help protect homes and businesses in the flood zone. We will need volunteers to help sandbag tonight from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Volunteers are encouraged to meet at the Warren Township High School O'Plaine Campus North lot between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to sandbag. No reservation required, all available assistance encouraged. Wear appropriate clothing including work boots and gloves. We encourage sandbagging volunteers to get to the site by taking Washington Street to O'Plaine. Barriers may be up at Washington and O'Plaine to local traffic only, but volunteers will be allowed through.

Road closures are to be expected within the hour. Closures planned on Grand Avenue from Route 21 to Route 41 as water levels crest on to Grand Avenue. O'Plaine Road will be closed north of Washington, but will be open to local traffic and sandbaggers.
