The Village of Gurnee, in partnership with American Legion Post 771, is proud to salute those who honorably serve(d) in the United States Armed Forces. This program is intended to both honor and recognize the men and women from the Village of Gurnee who have served in the US Armed Forces protecting our nation, preserving our democracy and defending the ideals we hold dear. The banners will serve as a living tribute to honor past and present members of the Armed Forces and their family members. The banner will be placed on a light pole on O'Plaine Rd. and will include the service member’s name, image and branch of service.

The Village will post ten banners each year and priority will be given to those currently serving. Nominations will be accepted year round and if more than ten are received in a given year, consideration will be given in the order received with remaining given priority the following year.

TO NOMINATE A SERVICE MEMBER:

  • Fill out and submit the Gurnee Hometown Heroes nomination form below.
  • The honoree must live in Gurnee, lived in Gurnee for years, or have attended Warren Township High School.

Once the nomination is received, it will undergo review by the Veterans Blue Ribbon Commission for approval. If approved, the banner will be displayed for several weeks prior to Veteran's Day. The banner will be retired and returned to the service member’s family.
