Temporary Closure of Grand Avenue / US-41 underpass - October 27th to October 30th

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that a full closure will take place on Grand Avenue (Illinois 132) east of Skokie Highway (U.S. 41) in Gurnee beginning, Friday, Oct. 27, weather permitting. The closure is necessary for beam placement and construction of a temporary bridge, part of the ongoing improvements on Grand Avenue between U.S. 41 and Waveland Avenue.
Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Grand Avenue will be fully closed at the railroad tracks located east of U.S. 41 until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30. A posted detour will direct eastbound Grand Avenue traffic to go on south on Skokie Highway, east on Washington Street and north on N. Green Bay Road (Illinois 131) to meet back with Grand Avenue. Westbound Grand Avenue traffic will take the reverse route:

The full closure will reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, weather permitting. On Monday, traffic on Grand Avenue will resume to one lane in each direction between Skokie Highway and Waveland Avenue.
The overall project consists of removal and replacement of the Union Pacific Railroad bridge. It also includes pavement reconstruction and widening on Grand Avenue as well as widening of the southbound U.S. 41 ramp. The overall project will be completed in spring 2019.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
