Top Stories of 2019: # 5 Gurnee Hires Six New Firefighter/Paramedics through SAFER Grant for Fire Station 3 Staffing

The Gurnee Fire Department was awarded a $1.2 million Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant. The funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help departments meet staffing needs. The funding was used to add a total of six new Firefighter/Paramedic positions to assist Gurnee and the Warren-Waukegan Fire Protection District (WWFPD) meet the demands of increasing call volume. Mike Gorski, Matt Meier, Kyle Stadie, and Tyler Hill were sworn in March 11th, and Robert Heroux and Ryan Seiffert were sworn in on May 6th. All came to Gurnee as state certified Firefighters/Paramedics. The additional Firefighter/Paramedic positions will assist with the staffing of Fire Station 3, which will be located near Route 120 and Milwaukee Avenue to assist with quicker response times. Fire Station 3 is expected to be constructed over a two-year period beginning in 2020.
