Gurnee Police Department Promotion
GURNEE, IL – On Monday, October 29, 2018, the Village of Gurnee Police Department promoted two employees. Commander Jon Ward was promoted from Sergeant to the position of Patrol Commander and Sergeant Traci Pugliese was promoted from Detective to Patrol Sergeant. Mayor Kristina Kovarik administered the oath of office to both.
Commander Jon Ward has been a member of the Gurnee Police Department since 1993 and served as a Sergeant from 2004 to 2018. Jon has served the department in many roles over his career including, as a juvenile officer, gang officer, defensive tactics instructor, use of force instructor and evidence technician. In 1994, Jon was selected to the NIPAS Mobile Field Force. In 1995, Ward was selected as the Gurnee Police Officer of the Year. In 1996, Jon was selected as an agent with ROPE (Repeat Offender Program Enforcement). In 2000, Jon was selected as a Detective and assigned to the Gurnee Investigations Bureau. In 2004, Jon was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to patrol. In 2008, Ward graduated from Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety, 10 week School of Police Staff and Command. In 2015, Jon was assigned as a Sergeant in the Gurnee Investigations Bureau. Commander Ward was appointed to the position of Day Shift Patrol Commander.
Sergeant Traci Pugliese has been a member of the Gurnee Police Department since 2006. Traci has served the department in many roles over her career including, as an Evidence Technician while as a patrol officer. In 2011, Traci was selected as a Detective and assigned to the Gurnee Investigations Bureau. In 2014 Pugliese was selected to represent our department on the ICAC (Internet Crimes against Children) Task Force and on the Lake County Major Crime Task Force. In 2012 and 2015, Pugliese was selected as the Gurnee Police Officer of the Year. Sergeant Pugliese was assigned as the Team B Days Patrol Sergeant.
