Des Plaines River Update: July 14, 2017, 11am

Des Plaines River Specific:

As of 10:30am on July 14, 2017 the Des Plaines River was at level of 11.2 feet and rising to a predicted level of 11.9 feet on Saturday afternoon according to reporting information provided by the National Weather Service (NWS).

Areas inundated with flood waters have been secured by law enforcement and no access will be permitted. Sandbagging operations have been completed. The community and first responders are standing by to address needs as they arise.

Sandbags are available at the Warren Township High School parking lot at O’Plaine Road and McClure Avenue. Access to the sandbagging area is O’Plaine Road from Washington Street.

Non-riverine Specific:

The regional “non-riverine” flooding situation is improving as local drainage systems begin to draw down from the record rain event. Unfortunately, all the local drainage is directed to the Des Plaines River and will be contributing to the flooding along the river expected over the next several days.

The last inundated area for non-riverine flooding is generally located near the Dada Drive and Almond Road intersection. Pipes are flowing at capacity and the levels are dropping slowly. Staff continues to monitor this location for proper operation. We believe ComEd has restored power or provided temporary power to homes that were impacted. Power outages should be reported to ComEd if not already done so.

If you begin to have water come into your home or basement, please remember to take extreme caution for possible electric shock. The Village would like to urge anyone with flooded basements to contact the Village of Gurnee or ComEd to have the power disconnected prior to entering the basement. From 7:30 am to 4 pm Monday thru Friday called Village of Gurnee at (847) 599-7550, after business hours contact ComEd at (800) 334-7661.

If you have questions regarding this information, please contact the Village at (847) 599-7550.
