DES PLAINES RIVER LEVEL: As of 9 P.M. last night, Wednesday, April 15, NOAA updated its prediction model and lowered the forecasted crest of the Des Plaines River from 10.5 feet to 9.3 feet. Currently, the river is at 9.05 feet and rising slightly ahead of the current prediction model. Once it crests, the river is expected to recede very slowly, remaining out of its banks until the middle of next week. Emerald Avenue was closed to traffic this morning due to water on the pavement at Emerald Avenue and Kilbourne Road. The west end of McClure Avenue is also closed. At this time, no other roadways are currently impacted. The current forecast shows less than one-half inch of rain over the next 24 hours and approximately three-quarters of an inch of rain over the next seven days.
Public Works has sand and bags available for residents and businesses that wish to make sandbags. Village staff will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
LRS will provide free unlimited yard waste collection for residents who do not pay an HOA for service during the weeks beginning April 20 and April 27. Yard waste must be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on your pickup day and set out in kraft paper bags, rigid cans, or bundled brush that meets size and weight limits.
