Gurnee Police Department Promotion

Gurnee, IL – On Monday, October 9, 2017, the Village of Gurnee Police Department will be promoting Commander Brian Smith to the position of Deputy Chief of Police.  At 7:00 p.m. at the Village Board Meeting (325 N. O’Plaine Rd.), Mayor Kristina Kovarik will administer the oath of office to Commander Smith. 

Commander Smith has been a member of the Gurnee Police Department since 2000, was promoted to Sergeant in 2010, to Commander in 2014 and has served as the Interim Deputy Chief of Operations since June 2017.

Commander Smith has served the department in many roles over his career, including, as an Evidence Technician, Field Training Officer, Rapid Deployment Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Simulation Instructor (Firearms Training Systems, FATS and MILO), Gang Officer, department armorer for pistols and rifles, and as a member of the Honor Guard.  Commander Smith has also supervised many of these programs.

Upon his promotion, Deputy Chief Smith will continue in his role overseeing Police Department Operations.
