Plumbing Inspector - Community Development Department

Summary:

The Village of Gurnee Community Development Department seeks candidates for the position of Plumbing Inspector.

An employee in this position is responsible for building and plumbing inspection work and activities to secure and maintain compliance with approved plans and local building codes and related ordinances.  Work also involves the inspection of buildings, plumbing, and mechanical systems in the course of construction, alteration, and repair.

Typical Duties:  reviews plans and blueprints of new building construction, additions, and alterations for items of concern to the building department; participates in field inspection of construction in progress; performs final inspection; conducts inspections and re-inspections of commercial, industrial, educational, and institutional buildings; confers with contractors, homeowners, and other parties in making corrections to ensure conformity with regulations and plans; advises the public on matters relating to building regulations; investigates complaints of hazardous conditions; maintains building inspection files and reports.

Pay Range:

Union position - Local 150 Midwest Operating Engineers

Hourly Rate:  $36.98 - $41.59+ / hour ($76,900 – $86,500 annual), DOQ/E

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma / equivalent

Valid driver’s license and safe driving record

Current Licensed Illinois Plumber

7+ years plumbing experience; other building trades and construction experience desirable

Additional college-level coursework in construction management or related curriculum or trades apprenticeship

Desired Qualifications:

Previous municipal inspection experience helpful but not required

IDPH Certified Plumbing Inspector desirable; other International Code Council (ICC) Inspector certifications desirable
